Museum of Science+Industry :: Launch!!

Today, the new website for the Museum of Science+Industry launched. We began working with the Museum in the summer of 2007 to creating a vision for the new site, and have since been designing and developing it. Celebrating the Museum’s 75th Anniversary, the site captures the inventive spirit of MSI while keeping the information & navigation super clear and consistent. It’s a beauty.
MSIChicago.org is a place to plan, learn, discover and do! The Museum is a huge, amazing place where people interact with each other and are inspired by scientific and technological accomplishments. One of our goals was to bring a strong sense of place to the website and to capture the Museum’s commitment to inspire the inventive genius in everyone. Throughout the site, users are encouraged to discover new, engaging content. An easy-to-use navigational framework orients users and supports further exploration.
The site is designed for the Museum’s diverse audience: people who need to quickly find the basics – hours, directions, and services; those who are curious about what the museum has to offer; students and educators in need of fun educational materials; recent visitors of the museum who want to discover more; donors, job seekers, members, and more.
From every page, users have a quick & easy path to plan a visit and learn the basics. We designed flexible templates that allow the Museum to add new exhibits, activities, and downloadables. We also included fun, tactile interactive elements that mimic the Museum experience, such as Step by Step How-Tos, Timelines, Polls & Trivia, an Interactive Map, Slideshows, embeddable Video Player, and more. It's so exciting to see all of it filled with real content now. Lots of really interesting stuff on there. Like <a href="http://www.msichicago.org/online-science/activities/activity-detail/activities/make-slime/">How to Make Slime</a>!
