Findable Flash

Thursday, May 08, 2008 by: David

We’ve posted a quick proof-of-concept for using HTML data rather than XML data for a Flash site. The goal is to make the data available to search engines without having to reformat the data for the Flash site. We are using static HTML pages, but it could have just as well been built out with a dynamic back-end.

If you know of a site that is doing something like this, let us know in the comments below.

well, we did something like it for the notwist.com site. it's completely done in flash and very experimental, very less content. the part with the most content in it are the tourdates, so we list those in the "flash div". that's the only content coming from a backend used in flash and non-flash versions of the site. generally this ain't some seo stuff, but more helps the users with iphones or any other mobile devices to get the most recent tour dates when surfing the site. anyway, this doesn't make a real approach, because you can't design for searchengines only, meaning that also have to style that non-flash content to make it look nice for people with no flash or mobile devices and so on and that approach doesn't make any difference to a flash no-flash selection entry page... except you don't want an entry content selection page smile
